Flat Carbon Steel

ArcelorMittal Brasil, through ArcelorMittal Tubarão and ArcelorMittal Vega, offers the market slabs, hot rolled coils and cold and galvanized rolled products for several industrial applications.

In operation since 1983, ArcelorMittal Tubarão is an integrated steel plant and strategically located in the region of Great Vitoria, in the state of Espírito Santo. It is a leader in the slab international market and a differentiated supplier in the domestic market of hot rolled products in which it started competing in the second half of 2002. Its rolling mill uses cutting edge technology and it is the sole steelmaking company of the country which has a coilbox in the rolling line, equipment that contributes decisively with the final quality of the product.

The steel slabs are also raw material for other steelmaking plants and are directly applied in naval and civil constructions. The hot rolled coils are used to manufacture several products, among them: pipes, pressure vessels, autoparts, agricultural tools, railroad material, electrical mechanical material, civil construction and large scale packaging. Cold rolled and/or galvanized slabs are also employed to manufacture vehicles (exposed parts), household appliances (white line) and electronics, among others.

ArcelorMittal Tubarão produces hot rolled coils between 1,2 mm and 2 mm thick. It can also produce coils with thicker gauges, between 12,5 mm and 16 mm, which replace conventional heavy plates at a lower cost - it is the only steelmaking company of the country with capacity to offer the product via hot rolling in such dimensions.

It has an installed capacity for 7,5 million tons/year of flat carbon steel.

ArcelorMittal Vega, installed in São Francisco do Sul, in the state of Santa Catarina, is one of the most modern units of flat carbon steel transformation worldwide. It operates with advanced pickling processes, cold rolling and galvanization. It has a capacity for 950 thousand tons/year of cold rolled products and galvanized sheets which are processed from the hot rolled coils integrally supplied by ArcelorMittal Tubarão, transported by cabotage to the industrial unit. It has had a growing domestic market share supplying to the automotive, household appliances, distribution, civil construction, pipes and shapes sectors.

With investments in the second galvanization line, the production capacity of the company will be close to 1,4 million tons/year as of 2010.
