ArcelorMittal Brasil was granted, last 09/28, in São Paulo, the Época Award of Climate Change offered by Época magazine and it highlights companies for their plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The award, created in partnership with PriceWaterhouseCoopers, is an initiative to recognize companies that act in favor of the planet's sustainability.
This year 120 companies installed in Brazil participated in the Award and their information was evaluated by a technical council formed by representatives of industrial entities, universities, the Banco Mundial, besides those which promote the award.
ArcelorMittal Brasil was chosen due to the existing systems in its long and flat carbon businesses, which reuse gases generated in steel production in four thermoelectric plants with installed capacity of 268 MW of electric power, and also use renewable biomass (charcoal) for the sustainable production of pig iron - the company also has eucalyptus renewable forests.
The Época Award of Climate Change was received by the Environment Managers of ArcelorMittal Tubarão, Luiz Antônio Rossi and of ArcelorMittal Aços Longos, José Otávio Andrade Franco.
