The efficient use of water in productive processes is one of the highlights of ArcelorMittal Brasil. The programs of effluent discharge reduction implemented at the industrial units have promoted in the past years, the rationalization of water resources, ensuring more than 98% recirculation of the water used in production - it's one of the highest averages of the Brazilian industry.
ArcelorMittal Monlevade, for instance, reduced the water inflow in Piracicaba river from 5,2 thousand cubic meters per hour in 2005 to 287 cubic meters per hour in 2008. Generally speaking, the industrial units of ArcelorMittal Aços Longos are considered benchmarking in water resource management by ArcelorMittal.
ArcelorMittal Tubarão uses 95% of sea water in its processes, which comes from their own pumping station, while ArcelorMittal Vega presented in 2008, a utilization index of new water of 0,41 m3/rolled tons - 40% lower that in 2004.
