Since 1998 the company has annually promoted the Tomorrow Citizens Program that stimulates natural people and legal entities through tax waiver, to make donations of part of their due income tax to the Municipal Funds of Children and Adolescents' Rights in order to be used in social projects of the communities. In 2008 more than 7 thousand donors, most of them employees from the ArcelorMittal Brasil companies, gathered R$ 2 million to be distributed among 28 cities.
Another initiative of wide range is the Program of Bone Marrow Donation, that in 2007 and 2008 mobilized employees, families and the entire chain of suppliers and partners of ArcelorMittal Brasil. It aimed at increasing the National Record of Bone Marrow Donors (Redome), from the National Institute of Cancer (INCA). 36 thousand new forms of possible donors have been recorded, which corresponds to 5% of the total number of donors recorded in Brazil. ArcelorMittal Brasil has already invested nearly R$ 1 million in projects developed by the INCA.
Volunteer actions are also part of the activities performed by the employees of ArcelorMittal Brasil. On December 5 - International Volunteer Day - the Company volunteers are dedicated to services in schools, social institutions and they also gather and donate goods. In 2008, the activities were performed in an integrated way in 45 units of ArcelorMittal worldwide involving around 7.6 thousand employees.
