The Company acts together with its suppliers in a way to spread good practices of social responsibility and sustainability. Two actions can be highlighted in this process:
ArcelorMittal Brasil was one out of nine companies of strategic sectors chosen to support the "Programa Tear" - Weaving Sustainable Nets" - a initiative of the Ethos Institute in partnership with the World Bank. Held between 2006 and 2008, the Program promoted the adoption of company social responsibility measures by small and medium sized companies which act in the value chain of several sectors, among them the steelmaking sector. ArcelorMittal Brasil worked with 15 companies that, for instance, created and implemented ethics codes, developed programs to reduce energy, water and paper consumption, acted towards reducing the environmental impact of their activities and started employees' qualification programs on themes related to Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility.
At the units of Tubarão and Cariacica, both in Espírito Santo state, the Integrated Program of Suppliers Development and Qualification (Prodfor) focuses on helping the implementation of quality management systems to ensure the standards required by major companies, favoring the relation between parties.
