The continuous investments made by the Arcelor Brasil companies, both in terms of equipment and the implementation of quality policies and human resources development, position us as the preferred supplier of increasingly demanding markets. These include the automobile, construction, packaging, and oil sectors.
The long steel business area produces and sells wire rod for various industrial applications, as well as the most complete line of products for civil engineering. We are one of the three principal world producers of wire rod for steel cord (for radial tires). With drawing mills in Brazil and Argentina (Acindar), we are the South American leaders in the production of wire for industrial and agricultural applications.
In flat steel, Arcelor Brasil is the largest Brazilian supplier of hot-dip galvanized steel (HDG) for the automotive industry, including interstitial free (IF) steel. Produced with an ultra-low carbon content, in a process that combines the use of equipment such as continuous ingoting with a vertical mold, and secondary refining using a vacuum degassing (RH) process, this type of steel is used to manufacture thinner sheets with high malleability and good mechanical resistance. Thus, it enables the safe, energy-efficient manufacture of lighter vehicles (which consume less fuel, and therefore emit less greenhouse gases).
We supply steel plates up to 2.1 meters wide with low hydrogen content to the naval industry. They are used to manufacture thick, high-resistance sheets. Additionally, the company is the only domestic supplier of steel for the packaging industry, producing the twin system, which permits simultaneous manufacture of steel plates with a width less than 1 m, as small as 750 mm, with impressive productivity gains. Another highlight in the flat product portfolio is API steel, used in the manufacture of tubes for the petroleum industry.
